About the Studio

Stitch House Studio has been a long-time vision we are so excited to bring to our Laguna Niguel neighborhood! With a deep knowledge of sewing and a passion for teaching others, we have created a space for creative exploration, communal connection, and learning through sewing.

Meet Robin

Founder & Instructor

My interest in fabrics and sewing began all the way back in 1972 when I was nine years old. School was starting soon and my mother had purchased enough fabric to make two dresses for me.

I remember like it was yesterday - opening the freshly pressed brown paper pattern, not knowing a single thing about sewing, let alone how to read a pattern and all the confusing terminology. The dresses had ruffles, ties, pockets, and a ZIPPER (could you even imagine?). With my mother’s guidance, I finished my dresses in time for school. That’s when my love for sewing began, and it has since become a lifelong skill and a profession that I truly love.

Over the years I’ve made plenty of clothes, costumes, bridesmaids, and wedding dresses for friends and family. It wasn’t until 1988 that I took on my first drapery job, making curtains out of sheets from Target. I quickly learned that it was a lot of fun to make window coverings, so I ventured out to make that my focus. In 2002 I opened my window coverings business, Elements of Design.

20 years later, here I am. Having my own sewing business and workroom has allowed me to truly perfect my skills as a seamstress. I’ve also had the opportunity to pass on these skills to several of my employees, one of which started her own business, and others who continue to sew today.

It has been an exciting journey that has directed me to a new path with a great passion: I want to teach others what I have learned.

This passion is what has encouraged me to open Stitch House Studio. I want to spread the art of sewing with both kids and adults. Sewing can ignite a creativity that may turn into an exciting hobby, a lucrative business, or open a door to a wonderful community of other makers.

The joyful experience of creating beautiful things with our own two hands is so therapeutic. I’m excited to work with all students to help them unleash their creativity. So, if you’ve got a desire to learn a new artistic skill, join us at Stitch House Studio and let's make something amazing!

Meet Jean

Co-Founder & Instructor

Hello, I’m Jean. I grew up observing my mom sew in our garage. I watched for years as she worked hard and grew her drapery workroom into a successful business. It took a while for me to come around and actually sit at a machine and begin to learn how to sew. I had experimented with all types of creative endeavors for years; I loved something for a couple of months then moved on to the next. Drawing, painting, writing - they all had their moments in my life but what really stuck with me was sewing. I received my first sewing machine for Christmas at 16 years old.

Sewing is not just about making something. I believe it can truly teach you a lot about yourself and the world, and help you build skills that you can apply to anything and everything. Sewing has allowed me to practice patience, determination, and the value of giving every little thing you do 100% effort because backstitching a quarter inch now is what prevents a seam from busting later.

I hope to help set the foundation for a fun, creative, and knowledgeable experience of sewing and other creative outlets for all who walk through the doors of StitchHouse Studio! I’m excited to meet everyone and gain even more hands-on experience as my mom and I start this new chapter fulfilling our shared passion of helping our fellow humans.
